The RMBI reaches out to Freemasons in Care

10 August 2011

The RMBI has offered a message of solidarity to residents of its Care Homes and has reached out to all Freemasons in care across the UK. The move comes in response to a series of alarming news headlines that have hit the UK in recent weeks involving the financial collapse of national care home provider, Southern Cross and the shocking revelations of ‘abuse' at Winterbourne View.

The financial collapse of Southern Cross is tragic and has left many elderly people and their families with a very difficult decision to make.  Due to the unique way the RMBI is funded, it can offer a great deal of solidarity to its residents, as the Masonic charity owns the freehold of all of its care homes nationwide and is financially sound.

Undercover reporters filming for Panorama exposed the infamous Winterbourne View, managed by Castlebeck. During the investigation by Panorama, the reporters uncovered numerous instances of ‘abuse'.

The RMBI continues to hold itself up to the highest moral promise to its residents. In order to protect the safety and comfort of its residents, the RMBI already has in place practices such as Abuse and Safeguarding policies, encouraging staff to whistleblow and maintaining zero tolerance to any type of abuse.

The RMBI is reaching out to Freemasons across the UK, either in care or with dependants in care, to get in touch if they would like help or advice during the current crisis in the care sector.
