Lord Harris residents get active
4 September 2009
A specialist outdoor gym opened in August near Lord Harris Court with equipment suitable for adults.
The park at Bearwood Recreation Ground has four pieces of equipment: a double station leg press, ski machine, double station chest press and lateral pull-down and a fitness bike.
The borough mayor Councillor Barrie Patman, who unveiled the £16,000 project said: “Local residents will be able to take full advantage of this new equipment, which will help them to get fit and healthy in the great outdoors”.Lord Harris resident Stan Webb had a work out at the outdoor gym and was able to transfer with minimal assistance from his wheelchair to the leg press. Stan commented: “I enjoyed using the machine and feel that it could benefit other people with similar disability problems. Being in a wheelchair for most of the day I think it will help to strengthen my leg muscles for the short distances I do walk. I certainly look forward to being able to go over to make use of the equipment regularly”.
