Mrs Joan Bond has been living in RMBI care home Scarbrough Court, Northumberland, for over three years. Joan has visual impairment and physical disabilities both of which require full support from care staff for her personal care. Joan’s condition means that she spends a lot of her time in bed or in a wheelchair.

Joan lost both her husband and son within a short space of time whilst residing at the Home. Joan says: “Scarbrough Court has been a wonderful place. When my son died the Home helped and supported me and I was accompanied to the funeral. The care staff looked after my every need and helped me to cope with the dark days.”

Shortly after, Joan’s husband passed away, Joan continues: “The Home staff organised everything for me. I was given emotional support and loving care which helped me through my sad time. Travel arrangements were organised for me and my family, which allowed me to follow behind the funeral car which transported my husband to his final resting place. I was accompanied by several very caring staff who supported me both emotionally and physically throughout the duration of the funeral.

“Afterwards, the catering staff at the Home organised a quiet room with refreshments for me, my family and friends, where we were able to pay our last respects with dignity and comfort. The help and support I received was above the call of duty and for that I thank everyone at Scarbrough Court, my home.”

The daily average total cost to run all 17 RMBI care homes is £91,000. With the ever increasing cost of care, every donation – no matter how small or large – is very important.
