Residents and staff at RMBI Home Shannon Court in Hindhead celebrated St David’s Day earlier this month in honour of their newest resident.
The Home’s staff were determined to make the day extra special for Gwen Stubbs who moved to the Home from Wales recently to be nearer her daughter.
Gwen, who had lived in Wales all her life, dressed in a traditional Welsh costume to enjoy a lunch of roast Welsh lamb and delicious Welsh cakes with fellow residents.
After lunch, Gwen’s son-in-law Alistair Halliday delighted everyone by singing and playing his accordion. All the residents enjoyed singing along to some traditional songs as well as some old favourites.
Activities Coordinator, Jackie Tumber, says: “Gwen had only been living at our Home for a little while and had been really missing her friends in Wales. So, we thought we’d bring a bit of Wales to Hindhead! She had a wonderful day and was thrilled at all the effort everyone had made. Having Gwen’s son in law treat us all to some traditional Welsh music was the icing on the cake.”
