Muriel Barfoot, resident at Shannon Court in Hindhead, has celebrated her 100th Birthday with family and friends at the care home.
To mark the special milestone on 15 February, Muriel enjoyed cake, sandwiches and some sweet treats and was joined by her daughter, grandson, his wife and her four great grandchildren. She was also thrilled to be presented with a birthday card from the Queen.
Muriel grew up in Southampton and was the eldest of six children. She married her husband in 1947 and they had one son and one daughter. Previously, she worked at rubber manufacturers Pirelli as a shop steward and was in charge of the production of casing, which was used for underwater cabling in the Atlantic.
Muriel has been living at Shannon Court since February 2017 in Alvernia House, the Home’s Dementia Support House. She enjoyed driving well into her 80s and says her secret to living a long and healthy life could be down to being a keen cyclist which has helped her to keep fit over the years.
