Residents and staff at Zetland Court in Bournemouth have held a whole week of Remembrance tributes. Showing their support and respect, residents and staff decorated the Home with poppies and fundraised for The Royal British Legion. The Home enjoyed a visit from local former RAF fighter pilot Chris Marshall who gave a talk about his experiences as a fast jet pilot. Chris kindly loaned the Home his RAF uniform which took centre stage in a special Remembrance display.
Residents from Shannon Court in Hindhead joined with the children from Camelsdale Primary School on Friday, 9th November, to paint special poppy rocks as part of a special Remembrance Day tribute. Among the residents who visited the school was Gladys Bendall, whose husband and father both fought in World War Two.
Great grandmother Ruby Liffen, a resident at James Terry Court in South Croydon, celebrated her 103rd birthday this week with a poignant Remembrance Day message to younger generations to “appreciate what they’ve got”. Ruby was born on 7th November 1915 in Great Yarmouth, just after the start of the First World War. She spent most of her young life there, eventually meeting her late husband Edgar Liffen.
